This last week I was able to live out a dream I have had
for the last several months in regards to our automotive outreach. We have helped people buy or sell around 20
cars and it’s been a hoot.
What was the dream? It seemed the Lord was saying “what if
you would be able to give away a car? Wouldn’t that be even more fun?” But I
said Lord cars are pretty expensive and I’m not sure anyone’s just going to
give one away yet I do agree that would be riotously fun.
Then last week Howard Nikkle called me up and said he heard
that I help connect people with cars
that need them and he has a mini-van he
wanted me to give away. I was shocked. Then the cynical salesman in me had
questions.
So what’s wrong with
this car? To which he said nothing much, just a few little quirks but it runs
well. Then I asked if it was rusty? To which he said it has almost no rust on
it. It looks quite nice. It was a Flordia van [remember that little fact ;].
So then I just had to
ask the obvious question -why are you giving this car away? He explained that
he and his wife had been missionaries in South America for a long time. Often
things got tough but God always provided and proved himself faithful. Now they
have found themselves in a position that they can give away their vehicle to be
a blessing and prove God’s provision to someone else who has a need.
Needless to say I got
on this. I started telling everyone I knew at our church and in my pastors
group and everyone else along the way: FREE VAN! I started to get responses. Quite suddenly there were four people in line
for the van. The first person in line did not work out but the second person in
line [who was actually referred to me by a 100 year old pastor] whose car had
just quit seemed like a good fit.
The referring pastor said this individual had been praying
God would provide another vehicle for them and was believing God would do just
that. The connection was made and this dear sister came and took a test drive
and found this van to be an absolute answer to prayer.
And so it was given
as a gift from God as much as anyone. Oh my dear friends this is car dealing at
its most beautiful level. As the giver
and the getter met they real realized that they knew each other and had in fact
worked together many years before. It was like a reunion. The conversation they
had was full of joy.
Today I saw the
mission of Rev Motors so perfectly accomplished as we turn hate into happiness
one ride at a time. So now I’m expanding my formal offer to help people sell,
buy or GIVE AWAY vehicles for God’s glory and our good. By the way the lady’s
name who got the van was… FLORIDA VANN.
