The Foodie 40 Bicycling Adventure

Come and ride with the Lord…

“…whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. “ 1 Corinthians 10:31b

The Foodie 40 is a community biking adventure that will get you closer to Jesus with every mile! Join us on Memorial Day May 25th by the 9:am start time as we pray and launch the ride. There is a group who is committed to riding the full 40 miles but everyone can go as far as they wish… and maybe just a little further ;) Then just turn around and ride back to Dalton.

The ride is on the trail (unless weather or construction force us on the road) from Dalton through Massillon to Canal Fulton (Cherry Street Creamery 136 Cherry St W, Canal Fulton, 44614 ) around 11:30am where we’ll grab an early lunch. Then we turn around and go back to Dalton riding 20 miles home.

A good bike, helmet and water bottle will make the ride most fun. It’s also always a good idea to have someone to call if you need a ride home for any reason. Children should be accompanied by a watchful adult.

Here’s where we start and finish: Dalton Village Green Park 41 S Freet St, Dalton, 44618 (mile 0 and 40)

Now for those who wish for a greater adventure the ride is easily expanded to the vigorous Fun 81 or the epic Fun 101. In this case we would lunch at Spaghetti Warehouse (510 S. Main St bldg 33, Akron, 44311) which is mile 40 ½ . Fun 101 riders will ride 10 miles past there then turn around and head back to Dalton).

Any questions just call or text Todd Martin: 330-621-1115

[For the record-the time to beat for the 101 is 9 h. 47 m. done in 2021]

Some may wonder why do we do these rides? I would offer this story:

It was a cool, cloudy morning when we were to begin our Fun 81-mile bike adventure and Stephanie showed up.

She was 15, wearing rubber clogs and a cotton skirt that almost went to her ankles. She was planning to ride her Walmart bike that she recently bought from Goodwill. I asked her how far she was planning to go today and she said all the way.

I had serious questions as to whether she could make it and almost no hope that her bicycle would make this vigorous 8-10 hour trek. We started out with the usual excitement and speedy pace. The sun came out and the temperature went up. As always there were people who didn’t go the entire distance, some on purpose and some just quit because this is just a long way to ride.

But Stephanie just kept peddling and her bicycle just kept rolling. I had known some of the struggles Stephanie had faced in her life. I had seen the quiet determination that carried her through many hard times. She came into this ride seeing it as a joyful challenge, an invitation to rely on God to get her through and He did.

I remember her exhausted smile as she rolled into the Dalton park after 81 miles. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind, especially my own that Jesus had rode with her the entire way. He would undoubtedly go with her wherever she would faithfully go from there and as far as I know Stephanie is still rolling with Jesus to this day.
