With Mother’s Day coming I’d like us to deeply consider the
God given wisdom our mothers gave us. I know we are not all mothers but we all
had mothers and one of their jobs was to teach us things about life.
Many times their wisdom came in subtle ways with repetition.
Eat your greens. Eat your greens. Eat your greens. brush your teeth. Brush your
teeth. Brush your teeth. And while our mothers taught us many good, basic and
practical things I believe there was often another level of learning.
It was those times that she spoke, with words or actions, Biblical
truth to us that may well have sounded like the very voice of God. These are
the powerful lessons and golden wisdom that a Godly mother can pass on to her
children. This is what I’m looking for in the Mother’s Day message this year at
S MC.
It would be beautiful if I would have so much Godly wisdom
that it could turn into a series, but the bare minimum would be three primary
points of wisdom that our mothers would have shared with of us. Now it would be
delightful if you would have the Bible book, chapter and verse that she refers
to. But mom’s can be more subtle.
God may have given
your mother a word that is full of biblical wisdom but no reference was offered.
That is totally OK because that’s my job: discovering Biblical truth in our
everyday lives that we can share with each other.
This is my appeal: What is the biblical wisdom your mother
passed on to you? And would you be willing to share it with me, so that I can
share it with the congregation and the rest of the world via Youtube?
I am more than happy to receive your input with your name
and your mother’s name however I will share all of it anonymously on Sunday. I suppose in that regard you could share it
anonymously on paper but I would much prefer it come from a text or an email thus
I would know who sent it. But if you still wish to write it out and put it in
my church mailbox that’s OK too.
