I preach a lot about reaching out to our friends, neighbors and even strangers that God puts in our path. But I must admit it’s
scary. Just this week as I was driving into our parking lot here at SMC when I
noticed once again a fleet of utility trucks that had been parking in our lot
for over a week.
The Lord said to me "Look at all those guys that are here everyday and have you even said hello? Have you done anything to invite them into the saved life?" I was instantly convicted so I said "Lord what do you want me to do?" [THIS IS A DANGEROUS, BUT EXACTLY RIGHT QUESTION TO ASK]
He said go in and get a stack of daily breads slip your business card
inside and go give it to them. It was all very clear but then the devil started
talking. "Those are utility guys, they are a rough crowd, they do not want to be
bugged by you. They will laugh at you. They don’t care about a daily devotions!
Who do you think you are?"
Thankfully the devil asked that last question and it
triggered in me a Holy Spirit inspired sass. So I said to him "wait a minute
this is our church parking they are on God’s property. They can’t just be here
and think this is just another parking lot. They need to know this is a church and
for Pete’s sake I’m the pastor! And who doesn’t wanna know where there is a
clean bathroom available."
So I grabbed 8 daily breads and headed out the door. I went
to each truck where there were clusters of guys. They received me very kindly
they all took a devotional and were glad to know about the restroom which
several of them used. A couple of them even inquired about the car for sale.
Here’s my challenge to you: is there a place or a people
that you should be inviting into the saved life? Equipping yourself and then others with a daily devotional based on the Bible is a great way to start! Why not grab a few Daily Breads and see what happens? There is always a fresh supply on the little table in the West Hall across from Kathy's office. If God can use even me, I know he can use you too
to bless people for his glory and our good.
