Rev Report #4 "You do new too?"

Psalm 37:4, "Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart,"

Recently I was asked to assist someone in purchasing a new car and it was a hoot. Now please understand buying a new car is a big investment and for those who will drive a car a long time it can make sense. But the process may be very intimidating.

The key to buying a new car or really any car is to establish and hold to a price that is affordable for you. The best practice is paying cash on the spot. In this situation that was the case and this is where the fun really begins. The buyer knew exactly what she could spend and exactly what she wanted.

This puts the buyer in the perfect position to get the deal that they want and makes my job wonderfully fun and easy. Because then all we have to do is find the car that matches the price. The tension came because the price was right on the edge of what a really nice used car would go for but not necessarily a brand new one.

At the same time we had time on our side as we were approaching the end of the month which is when sales quotas are tallied which again works to the advantage of the buyer. Best case scenario is when you have all the time in the world to buy the car and there is no real pressure to make the purchase quickly.

And so the hunt began. The buyer wanted to stay local and so we went to a dealership and found exactly the car she wanted. The problem was it was thousands of dollars away from the target price she wanted to spend. This naturally put pressure on the dealer to bring the price down which they said they could not do. At which point I respectfully said it’s OK, we can find a used vehicle that will be in this price range.

Within a few days I found one but it was not at a local dealer. Here is where we prayed that God would make it very clear which vehicle should be purchased. You want the car God wants you to have. The dealership with the used car was a couple hours away and we didn’t want to spend a lot of time once we got there, so I asked them email the paperwork and we would do most of it before we arrived.

But the day before we were to drive down the paperwork never came through. Interestingly the local dealership called me back that day and said “Todd what do we need to do to keep you local?”  I simply said match the price which they did.

Please understand this doesn’t always happen this way. The nice part is, a win win situation was created, the buyer maintained the budgeted amount to spend and was going to get a great car either way.  I believe the buyer got exactly the car God intended and this is what makes the deal absolutely delightful.
