Socks and Undies-How God gives us what we need at Christmas… and you can give too!

I suppose most of us can remember that Christmas.  You were a kid and you knew what you wanted.  You grabbed the gift to it open and realized it was not what you wanted.  It was socks and or undies.

Here's the thing though you didn’t want them you needed them. Someone who loved you, was wise and caring, gave you what you needed.  This is exactly what God did that first Christmas.  He gave us what we needed in the birth of Jesus.

The sermon series we will have all of December will highlight this want versus need dilemma.  The people who experienced the first Christmas firsthand likely felt this tension. We wanted this but got this? What are you doing God? Thankfully most came around to see the beauty of the Gift and the great need it met for the world!

As an active application of those messages I would like to offer you opportunities to give every Sunday of December. I have reached out to a couple ministries that seek to meet needs in our community.

One of them is the Orrville salvation army. They are very much open to receiving kids socks and undies all Christmas long and we'll put them to use after Christmas as well. These should of course be new only.

People to People in Wooster said they did not have a need for socks and undies as much as boys pants size 3 to 18 and men's pants size 28 to 32 as well as what they consider athletic pants. They are also very low on men's hats and gloves.

You can bring those as an offering this Christmas you can put all these items by the little Christmas tree in the West Hall and we will make sure they get to the right places. I believe we move closer to what Christmas is all about when we give things people need  we may never meet this side of heaven.  I pray that you will be blessed as you listen to the Spirit prompt you to give.
